In principle, ginger is a natural immune system booster. If you feel weak or sick, you like to fall back on the miracle tuber. Ginger stimulates the metabolism, helps the body to regulate itself, and has an activating effect. In contrast to its positive properties, its side effects are very small. The side effects that exist mainly relate to certain risk groups.
- Hotness: Ginger has a natural hotness. This alone gives a signal as to whether and how much ginger the body can tolerate. As with any spicy food, eating too much of it can cause diarrhea. People who are sensitive to spiciness also sometimes notice a burning sensation in the mouth or sweating when eating.
- Intolerance: As with any food, intolerance can also occur with ginger. If you notice that you feel bad if you eat it several times, we advise against ginger. You should pay particular attention to this with children.
- Blood thinning: Ginger has a blood thinning effect. This can be an advantage for some people. However, if you are taking medication that counteracts blood thinning, ginger is not for you. You should also avoid ginger during menstruation or if you often have nosebleeds.
- Gastrointestinal complaints: In principle, ginger should actually contribute positively to intestinal flora. In some cases, or if you eat too much ginger, you may experience gas, diarrhea, or heartburn.

- Heartburn/Headache: Ginger in pregnancy can also lead to heartburn and headaches.
