God’s Bread – Pao De Deus ~ Arrufadas

The perfect god’s bread – pao de deus ~ arrufadas recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

~ Batter ~

  • 7 g Dry yeast
  • 175 ml Milk, lukewarm
  • 350 g Flour
  • 50 g Sugar
  • 0,5 pinch Salt
  • 35 g Butter or margarine
  • 1 Egg

~ Topping ~

  • 60 g Granulated sugar
  • 30 g Almonds, chopped
  • 20 g Chocolate, grated

~ for brushing ~

  • 1 Egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • 2 tbsp Possibly powdered sugar to dust
  1. In the original it is made with a coconut flakes-sugar-egg topping, but since I don’t like coconut flakes, I exchanged it. If you prefer to do it like the original, for the topping … 60 g sugar, 50 g coconut flakes, 1 egg …
  2. yeast with a teaspoon. Dissolve the sugar in the lukewarm milk and set aside, covered. Put all other ingredients for the dough in a mixing bowl. Make a well in the middle, where you then add the yeast milk. When everything is together, knead everything well, shape into a ball and cover and let rise twice. Approx. 30 – 40 min. At 30 ° C
  3. Cut 8-10 pieces of the same size from the risen dough and shape them into balls. Place these on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and let rise for another 15 minutes. I had also folded a wreath. 😉 Preheat the oven to 180 ° C hot air!
  4. Mix the ingredients together for the topping. Mix the egg yolks with the milk and brush the risen balls with it. Cut a superficial slit and spread the topping over it.
  5. Put in the oven for about 20-25 minutes, 20 minutes were enough for me. 😉 Who would like to sprinkle with powdered sugar and then they can already be eaten.
  6. Bon appetit !!! Bom Apetite !!!
