Grandma's pot roast

Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 350 g meat for roasting (beef, pork, lamb or poultry)
  • salt and pepper
  • Paprika powder
  • 2 carrots
  • 3 shallots
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 cube of sauce powder (gravy)

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 10 minutes

Basic recipe

Season the meat generously with salt, pepper, and paprika. Roughly chop the cleaned vegetables. Heat oil in a pot or deep frying pan and sear the meat and vegetables until well browned. This closes the pores of the meat and traps the liquid inside, keeping the meat nice and juicy. Do not cut into the meat beforehand! Once the meat is seared all over, fill the pot halfway with water. The roast does not need to be completely submerged. Cover and simmer for about 2 hours (less time for poultry). In the meantime, prepare the side dishes. Suitable options include spaetzle, croquettes, fried potatoes, cauliflower, peas and carrots, or salad. Stir in the gravy at the end of the cooking time.
