Grandma's potato salad

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 2 kg potatoes, waxy
  • 1 jar mayonnaise (e.g. Miracle Whip)
  • 2 m.-sized onion(s)
  • Pickled gherkins (preferably Spreewald)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch(s) of sugar
  • 1 pinch(s) of pepper

very simple and without frills, as I know it from my grandmother

Boil the potatoes with their skins on and let them cool. Then peel and slice them. Peel the onions and dice them together with the pickles (about twice as many diced cucumbers as onions). Mix the mayonnaise, the diced cucumbers, and the diced onions together, and season with salt, pepper, and sugar. Season again if necessary (I always add a dash of pickle juice to the mayonnaise). Simply stir everything into the potatoes and refrigerate until ready to serve.
