Gratinated beef tomatoes filled with spiced meat

Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 2 beefsteak tomatoes
  • 1 can of meat (Harzer spiced meat)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • some butter for the mold
  • 2 tbsp Gouda, sliced
  • e.g. Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Preheat oven to approximately 200°C. Grease an ovenproof dish with softened butter. Place the seasoned beef in a saucepan and heat gently over low heat. Stir occasionally to prevent it from burning. Wash the tomatoes. Cut off a lid and scoop out the tomatoes using a teaspoon. Briefly drain the remaining liquid from the tomatoes through a sieve. Remove the pot with the seasoned beef from the heat. Stir the egg yolk into the seasoned beef. Season to taste with Worcestershire sauce. Season the inside of the tomatoes with salt and pepper, then spread the seasoned beef evenly between both tomatoes. Place the stuffed tomatoes in the dish. If there is any leftover seasoned beef, spread it around the tomatoes in the dish. Sprinkle a tablespoon of cheese on each stuffed tomato, then place the dish in the bottom third of the preheated oven. Bake for approximately 10 to 15 minutes, then serve. Serve with white bread, if desired. I really like to serve it with cheese sandwiches.
