Meatballs in delicious sauce
To make the meatballs, soak the bread roll in cold water (about 10 minutes) and then squeeze out any excess water. Fry the chopped onion in a little oil. Place the minced meat, squeezed out the bread roll, onion, garlic, egg, tomato paste, and oregano in a bowl, season well with salt and pepper, and mix everything together thoroughly. With moistened hands, form eight equal-sized patties. For the sauce, fry the onion in a little oil, add the sliced mushrooms, and sauté briefly. Add the tomatoes and their juices and roughly chop. Add the heavy cream, broth, garlic, paprika, oregano, and sugar; mix everything together, season with salt and pepper, bring to a boil, and simmer gently for about 5 minutes. Pour the sauce into a baking dish, place the meatballs on top, and sprinkle with cheese. Bake in the oven at 180°C for about 30 minutes. We like to serve this with mashed potatoes.
