Greek Macaroni Casserole

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 375 g macaroni
  • 2 onions
  • 1 clove(s) garlic
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 375 g minced meat
  • 1 small can of tomatoes
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 50 g cheese
  • 4 eggs
  • 375 ml milk
  • nutmeg
  • Parsley
  • Thyme
  • salt and pepper
  • Fat for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 55 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 35 minutes

Cook the macaroni for about 5 minutes, then rinse in cold water. Peel and finely chop the onions and garlic. Heat the oil in a pan. Sauté the onions and garlic. Add the minced meat and fry until crumbly. Add the tomatoes. Season with salt, pepper, and cinnamon. Fry for about 10 minutes. Grate the cheese. Whisk the eggs, milk, and cheese. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Stir in the parsley and thyme. Spread the minced meat into a greased baking dish. Spread half of the pasta on top. Layer the remaining minced meat and pasta on top. Pour the egg wash over the meat. Bake in a hot oven at 200°C (top/bottom heat) for about 40-50 minutes.
