Ingredients for 15 servings:

  • some oil for frying
  • 1,500 g gyros meat
  • 4 onions
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 6 bell peppers, colored
  • 2 chili peppers
  • 150 ml red wine
  • 200 g rice
  • 100 g tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp paprika powder
  • 2 liters of meat broth
  • 500 ml water
  • 250 ml Hungarian-style paprika sauce
  • 250 ml chili sauce
  • some oregano
  • some thyme
  • 250 g peas, frozen
  • 200 ml cream
  • 150 g processed cheese
  • 300 g sheep’s cheese
  • e.g. salt and pepper
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes; Total time approx. 2 hours

Clean and dice the onions, garlic, chilies, and bell peppers. Heat the oil in a large pot and brown the meat in batches. After browning, set the meat aside and brown the prepared vegetables in the same pot. Add the washed rice, curry powder, paprika, and tomato paste and sauté. Deglaze with red wine and reduce. Then add the meat and pour in the stock, water, and both sauces. Add the oregano and thyme. Cover and simmer until the rice is tender. Now add the peas, cream, and processed cheese. Bring back to a boil and season with salt and pepper. Finely dice or crumble the feta cheese. Sprinkle it over the soup when serving.
