Tips and tricks for grilling pineapple

Pineapple is a perfect fruit for grilling.

  • It is best to cut the tropical fruit into slices, which you can then put on the grill. However, the slices should not be too thin. A thickness of three to four centimeters per slice is the optimal grill thickness.
  • Fruit should generally not be grilled at excessively high temperatures. So it is better not to put the pineapple in the middle, but rather on the edge of the grill. In addition, the pineapple does not have to stay on the grill for so long. Five minutes on each side is enough. Otherwise, the sweet fruit will quickly become mushy.
  • You can place pineapple slices directly on the grill or alternatively grill them in an aluminum tray or aluminum foil. If you choose the latter variant, coat the aluminum foil with a little fat. Then the pineapple will not stick to the aluminum material.
  • Grilled pineapple also tastes great on its own, but you can add a marinade to emphasize the sweetness of the flesh. In addition to any honey or brown sugar, maple syrup is also suitable here. Herbs also go quite well with pineapples. Mint or basil are favorites here, giving the grilled fruit an extra freshness to taste.

An easy pineapple grill recipe

Caramelizing pineapple on the grill is very easy.

  • To do this, peel a fresh pineapple and cut it into slices three to four centimeters thick.
  • Sprinkle the pineapple slices on both sides with a sugar and cinnamon mixture.
  • Grease an aluminum grill tray with a little fat and place the prepared pineapple slices in it.
  • Grill the pineapple slices for about five minutes. Then turn the fruit slices over and grill the other side for five minutes.
  • The caramelized pineapple slices are ideal as a dessert – for example with one or two scoops of vanilla ice cream.
  • A little recipe tip: Wrap the pineapple slices that have been dipped in brown sugar in aluminum foil. Place the slices on the grill for five minutes. Meanwhile, cut a few thin slices of camembert. When the time is up, open the slide briefly. Now put the camembert slices on the hot pineapple and close the foil again. Then leave the slices on the grill for another five minutes. A delicious addition to boiled or grilled potatoes is ready. But a slice of wholemeal toast also serves well as a base – this should then be toasted.
