Gyros and feta cheese casserole

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 kg meat (gyros) from pork or poultry
  • 500 g tomatoes
  • 4 onions
  • 2 bell peppers, red
  • 2 packs of feta cheese
  • 1 flatbread(s)
  • 500 g natural yogurt
  • 1 pack of quark
  • ½ cucumber(s)
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • Oil for the mold
  • salt and pepper
  • possibly lemon juice

Instructions

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour

Bake the flatbread according to the package instructions. Meanwhile, chop the tomatoes, peppers, onions, and feta cheese. Brown the gyro. Then cut the flatbread into approximately 1 cm cubes. Lightly grease the baking dish with oil, line the bottom of the dish with a layer of flatbread cubes, then add the first layer of gyro, tomatoes, peppers, onions, and feta cheese. Repeat this process until all of the ingredients are used up; the last layer should be feta cheese. Bake in the oven at 180°C for 20 minutes. For the tzatziki, mix the yogurt and quark, then grate in half a cucumber, press in the garlic, and season with salt, pepper, and lemon juice, if desired.
