Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 400 g gyros meat, seasoned
- 1 garlic clove(s)
- Salt
- 4 tbsp Metaxa
- 1 can of tomato paste
- 40 g crème fraîche
- 60 g Emmental cheese, finely grated
- 500g French fries
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 35 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 5 minutes
Preheat the oven to 225°C (top/bottom heat) and place the fries on a baking sheet. Bake on the middle rack for about 15 minutes. Briefly sear the gyro in a non-stick pan over high heat. Then continue to cook at medium heat, but not too crispy so the meat remains moist. If you buy ready-made gyro, no additional oil is needed, as the meat is already marinated in oil. Add garlic to taste. Add the Metaxa and tomato paste and stir well. Then bring back to a boil briefly. Turn off the heat and stir the crème fraîche into the sauce. Place the gyro in a baking dish and sprinkle with the finely grated cheese. Place the dish on a rack in the oven next to the fries. Bake for about another 10 minutes.
