Gyros topped with cheese

Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 500 g gyros meat (pork or chicken strips) seasoned
  • 2 bell peppers
  • 200 g whipped cream
  • 200 g crème fraîche
  • 200 g sour cream
  • 1 tbsp Metaxa
  • 250 g Emmentaler, Gouda or Feta
  • Olive oil for frying

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 45 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 5 minutes

with Metaxa

Dice the bell peppers and fry them in a pan with the gyro in a little oil. I used olive oil. Meanwhile, stir together the heavy cream, crème fraîche, and sour cream to make a creamy sauce. Add Metaxa to taste. First, fill the gyro with the bell peppers in a casserole dish, then spread the sauce over them. Grate the cheese and sprinkle it on top. Bake the casserole at 180 degrees Celsius (top and bottom heat) for about 35 minutes, depending on how brown you want the cheese. White cabbage, tzatziki, and fries go perfectly with it. If you omit the fries, this casserole also works as a low-carb dish.
