Ingredients

for the sauce

  • 250 g Sweet cream
  • 250 g Sour cream
  • 125 ml Fresh milk
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 -2 tbsp Vinegar (according to taste)
  • Possibly salt (be careful with salted herrings)
  • Pepper

also

  • 600 g Salted herring fillets without skin (alternatively herring)
  • 100 g Diced pickles
  • 150 g Cut the onions into quarters and cut into fine strips
  • 1 Apple in cubes

Instructions

First prepare the sauce

  • Mix the sour cream, sweet cream, milk, sugar, pepper and vinegar well. Do not salt for the time being, as the salted herring fillets themselves contain a lot of salt. If matjes is used, you can add a little salt straight away.
  • Now cut the herrings into small pieces and add to the sauce with the diced cucumber, onion strips and apple pieces. Mix everything well. Let steep in the refrigerator for a few hours. Finally stir again and add seasoning if necessary.
  • We eat jacket potatoes with it. Enjoy the meal
