Ingredients for 5 servings:

  • 500 g macaroni
  • 500 g potatoes, waxy
  • 500 g onion(s)
  • 150 g butter
  • 1.2 liters vegetable stock
  • 200 ml cream
  • 200 g Gruyère, grated
  • e.g. salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

Upside-down Älplermagronen, simple and good

Cut the onions into even cubes and fry them slowly in the butter over medium heat. Stir frequently until the onions are nicely dark brown. Meanwhile, peel the potatoes, cut them into 1 cm cubes, and add them to the onions. Sauté briefly and then deglaze with the stock. Bring everything to a boil, add the macaroni, and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring, until the liquid has reduced and the macaroni is tender. If necessary, add a little more liquid. Set aside, add the cream and cheese, and season to taste.
