With the finest active ingredients directly from nature. A treat for cough-plagued throats… and to calm nerves and soul!
Carefully sterilize a large preserving jar and let it cool upside down on a fresh kitchen towel. Wash the lemon and orange, finely grate the zest, remove the white part of the peel, and cut the flesh into small cubes. Peel the ginger and slice thinly. Pick the thyme leaves. Cut the sage leaves into strips. Layer the orange and lemon peel and flesh, along with the ginger, thyme, sage, and vanilla, with the honey in the preserving jar. After a while, the honey will liquefy, then stir well again. Close the jar and let it steep overnight on the radiator so the flavors blend. The next day, strain everything through a fine sieve; the honey will now have completely liquefied and become syrup. Pour the honey syrup into smaller, sterilized bottles and seal tightly. Store the cough syrup in the refrigerator. This homemade strained cough syrup will keep for at least 4 months. Tip: The syrup tastes great either on its own with a spoon or dissolved in warm milk or warm tea.
