Homemade Gyros Like Dieter’s

The perfect homemade gyros like dieter’s recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

marinade

  • 0,5 tsp Ajvar
  • 1 tsp Tomato paste
  • 1 piece Finely chopped red onion
  • 2 piece Finely chopped garlic cloves
  • 1 piece Finely chopped red chilli without seeds
  • 1 pinch Coarse sea salt
  • 5 tbsp Rapeseed oil
  • 0,5 tsp Sweet paprika powder
  • 0,5 tsp Hot paprika powder
  • 1 tsp Rosemary needles roughly ground in a mortar
  • 1 something Black pepper from the mill
  1. Chop the pork roast (third picture), gyros-style. Add the marinade ingredients and mix everything well.
  2. Now put everything together in a freezer bag and leave to marinate in the refrigerator for about 24 hours.
  3. Before preparing, take the gyros out of the refrigerator and let it reach room temperature.
  4. Then briefly fry the meat all around until crispy (I do this in a wok), stir in the tomato paste and ajvar and let fry briefly.
  5. Preheat the electric oven to 90 degrees. Put the fried gyros in a baking dish (pre-heated in the oven) and let it simmer for 15 minutes
  6. Serve with side dishes of your choice. We had boiled potatoes and garlic sauce grandma’s style (see my KB) with it.
