Homemade Sweet and Sour Onion Soup

The perfect homemade sweet and sour onion soup recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 1 Yellow pepper
  • 1 Red pepper
  • 500 g Onions
  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • 2 Stalk Lemongrass stick
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 30 ml Balsamic vinegar
  • 20 ml Sesame oil
  • 1 l Poultry broth
  • 1 tsp Curry powder
  • 1 tbsp Rapeseed oil
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp Nutmeg
  • 1 tsp Sweet paprika powder
  • 1 pole Spring onion
  1. Wash and core the peppers and cut into fine strips. Peel the onions and garlic, cut the onions into fine rings and dice the garlic.
  2. Cut the lower white part of the lemongrass into fine rings. Then caramelize the brown sugar in a saucepan and deglaze with the vinegar.
  3. Add the vegetables and sesame oil and stir-fry everything briefly.
  4. Pour the chicken stock, add the soy sauce and simmer on medium heat for 10 minutes.
  5. Then add the remaining ingredients and simmer for another 20 minutes. Finally, season to taste and serve. Tip: This recipe goes well with glass noodles as a soup.
