Honey BBQ Chicken Wings

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 1 ½ kg chicken wings or chicken thighs (drumsticks)
  • 120 g flour
  • 1 tsp, heaped garlic granules
  • 1 tsp, heaped cumin powder
  • 1 tsp, heaped pepper, black
  • 1 tsp, heaped cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp, heaped paprika powder, sweet
  • 1 tsp, heaped salt
  • 250 ml barbecue sauce, smoky (if not homemade, Bulls Eye is best)
  • 1 tbsp, heaped honey
  • 1 tbsp, heaped Sriracha sauce

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 55 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 10 minutes

Mix the flour and spices. Preheat the oven to 220°C. Coat the chicken pieces thickly in flour. Arrange on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and roast for 45 minutes, turning halfway through the cooking time. Mix the BBQ sauce with the honey and Sriracha sauce, using a warm water bath if necessary. Add 1 teaspoon each of pepper, cumin, or chili flakes to taste. Add the hot chicken pieces straight from the oven to the sauce and stir. The meat should be completely coated with the sauce. Then finish cooking the chicken pieces either on the grill or in a hot oven at 260°C for 6-8 minutes. Note: From step 4 onwards, the chicken pieces can also be stored in the refrigerator or frozen for later. The cooking time will be longer accordingly.
