How Do You Drink Gin? The Biggest Deadly Sins and How to Do It Right

The three biggest deadly sins when drinking gin:

Warning: Excessive alcohol consumption harbors numerous dangers!

  1. The first deadly sin concerns the ice in the gin. Of course, gin has to be served cold, but you shouldn’t let the spirit drink water down either. Waiting until the ice has completely melted will change the flavor of the gin, so avoid this at all costs.
  2. Drinking any gin with cucumber is a mortal sin. What you add to the alcohol is up to the flavor notes of the gin. You can refine your drink with limes or kumquats, for example.
  3. Drinking a gin just to get drunk is another mortal sin. The spirit should be celebrated by you. Don’t drink just any old-fashioned “alcohol is alcohol” gin. Let us advise you and find the gin that best suits you and your taste.

Drink gin – that’s how it works

Gin tastes best at a slightly chilled temperature of 13 to 15 degrees Celsius.

  • If you can, keep the glass in which the gin will be served in the fridge before pouring.
  • Then put a few ice cubes in and pour the gin over them. You should then enjoy the drink straight away. Don’t wait too long or the precious spirit will be watered down.
  • You can drink a good gin both pure and mixed. Most of them like the spirit with tonic water. You can also fill up the alcohol with ginger beer. In addition, various cocktail variations are recommended for you if pure gin is too strong for you – such as a martini or a gin fizz.

Mix gin and tonic – that’s how it works

The most famous long drink is probably the gin and tonic. For this you need the following ingredients: ice cubes, 60 milliliters of gin, 90 to 120 milliliters of chilled tonic water and a lime.

  1. Place the glass in which the gin and tonic is to be served in the fridge for about 20 minutes. So the drink stays cold longer afterwards.
  2. ut some ice cubes in the glass. You can also make them from tonic water if you like. This will prevent the cocktail from being watered down by the melting of the cubes.
  3. Measure out the gin, then pour it over the ice.
  4. Slice the lime and squeeze over the gin. Depending on your needs, you can choose between a slice of lime and a whole lime. Then add the squeezed lime slice to the glass.
  5. Measure out the tonic water and fill the glass with it. Pour it in slowly so the fizz doesn’t dissipate too quickly.
  6. Gently stir the drink to combine the gin, tonic water and lime juice.
  7. Depending on the type of gin, you can also refine your drink with cucumber, mint, lemon, kumquats or similar ingredients.
