Dried fruit is a necessary product for a person at any age. Nutritionists especially recommend consuming dried fruit for the elderly, because in the absence of fresh fruit in winter the body needs vitamins.

How to dry apples for compote – 3 popular methods

Before making dried fruit from apples, rinse them thoroughly and dry them naturally. Then the fruit should be cut into slices, if desired, you can remove the seeds and cut off the skin. Make a salt solution (1 tsp of salt per 1 liter of water) and dip the apples in it for 2-3 minutes. Then dry the apples again.

To prepare the dried fruit using an electric dehydrator, cut the washed apples into wedges and place them on the trays. Set the temperature to a minimum of 60°C. Keep the apples in the dryer for a maximum of 7 hours. Then check if they are ready and if they are still wet, dry them for another 2-3 hours.

Preheat the oven to 85°C. Cover trays or a rack with parchment, put sliced apples in a thin layer, and leave the oven door open. After 2 hours, turn the apples over and swap the trays. After 3 hours, reduce the temperature to 70°C. Wait until most of the moisture has evaporated, reduce the temperature again to 50°C and dry the apples for 4 hours.

Take a flat plate and put the apples which have been washed and cut into apple slices on it. Set the minimum power and time to 30 seconds. Then turn the fruit over and put it back in the oven, setting the maximum power and time – 4-5 minutes.

Getting to the process of making pear-dried fruit, sort them by size, and discard spoiled and overripe fruits. Rinse in cold water, dry, and then cut into 2-4 pieces. If you’re using too small or forest pears, you don’t have to divide them and don’t have to cut the skin off.

Put whole pears in a sieve and rinse with running water. Dry them naturally on a towel. Put them on a baking tray and into an oven preheated to 60°C. Dry for 5-10 hours, turning the pears occasionally and leaving the oven door open.

Put the pears on the cooking tray. Set a suitable temperature above 60°C. After 5 hours look at the fruit, if there is any moisture left in it, dry it for another 2-3 hours. In total, you can dry the fruit in this way for a maximum of 10 hours.

Wash and slice large pears, leaving small pears whole. Place the fruits in a single layer on a flat plate. Turn on minimum power, or if there is a “Defrost” setting, it’s best to use it. Wait 1-2 minutes, then increase the power to 200 and dry the fruit until done. The best time is 2-5 minutes.
