How to Dry Orange Slices

How to dry orange slices

Before drying the orange slices, you must first slice the oranges. Cut the pieces generously, as the orange slices decrease in volume very significantly during drying. Therefore, the slices should be a good 1.5 to 2 centimeters thick.

  • There are several ways to dry the fruit. Air drying is definitely the best option. This method also has the side effect that the apartment smells of oranges.
  • If there are radiators in your apartment, first place the freshly cut orange slices on very absorbent kitchen paper. Then place fruit slices either directly on the radiator or on the windowsill.
  • If you have a fireplace or stove, first place the orange slices on absorbent paper and then on an oven rack. Put the fruit on the fireplace or in the oven.
  • If you don’t have underfloor heating, the oven is a good alternative. Put the orange slices next to each other on the tray that you have lined with baking paper. The temperature should be between 80 and 100 degrees for about 30 minutes. Leave the oven door ajar to allow moisture to escape.
  • Tip: Whatever method you end up using, flip the orange slices every two to three days. And make sure that the fruit is really completely dry, otherwise, it will quickly start to mold later.
