Frying with linseed oil: be careful, keep your hands off!
- Linseed oil has a relatively high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids. These are mainly the omega-3 fatty acids. That is why linseed oil is also considered to be very healthy.
- However, these fatty acids do not tolerate high temperatures. The so-called smoke point for linseed oil is already 107 degrees Celsius.
- At this temperature, the linseed oil begins to smoke and harmful trans fatty acids are formed. Linseed oil should therefore only be added to hot or cold dishes afterward. For example for a salad dressing.
- Numerous other oils are suitable for frying: Sunflower oil and olive oil can sometimes withstand temperatures of over 200 degrees Celsius. In general, you can use almost any refined oil for frying.
