Kalua Pork from the Crock Pot

Spread the love

Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 2 kg pork shoulder
  • ½ tbsp sea salt, red or black from Hawaii, or half and half or other coarse sea salt
  • ½ tbsp flavoring (liquid smoke)

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 hours; Total time approx. 20 hours 10 minutes

Exotic from Hawaii

Pierce the meat several times with a sharp, pointed knife. Rub it all over with salt and then spread the smoke flavoring on it. Rub everything in well and then cook in the Crock Pot on LOW for about 20 hours. Do not add any liquid; the meat has plenty of fat. The meat is done when you can cut it with two forks. Shred it into small pieces and enjoy on baguette. For those who don’t have a Crock Pot, you can also prepare it in the oven. Wrap the seasoned meat tightly in aluminum foil and cook at 115 degrees Celsius for 20 hours. Do not open the foil halfway through cooking; it needs to steam completely in the foil. For smaller pieces of meat, shorten the cooking time slightly.
