Keeping bread in the fridge – does that make sense?
Depending on the type of bread, the baked dough will keep for a longer or shorter time:
- Baguette and white bread taste best on the first day and only keep for a few days. You should not store it for longer than two days.
- You should not keep wheat bread for much longer than 3 days. Rye bread keeps for at least five days, sometimes even up to two weeks.
- However, the bread has no place in the fridge. The bread dries out quickly in the cold. In the best-case scenario, the bread will keep for a day longer, but it won’t do you any favors in terms of taste.
Here’s how to do it right
- In the best case, store the bread protected from light at room temperature. Clay or ceramic pots with wooden lids work best for this.
- If you do not have a suitable container, you can simply store the bread in the packaging. Buns should also be sealed as airtight as possible.
- Rye bread do not need additional protection. Simply place the cut side of the bread on a wooden board.
