Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 1 kg flour
  • 50 g yeast
  • 150 g sugar
  • 375 ml milk, lukewarm
  • 125 g butter
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 egg(s)
  • 250 g sultanas
  • 100 g candied lemon

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 2 hours; Total time approx. 2 hours 30 minutes

Sunday morning breakfast bread

Place flour in a bowl. Make a well in the center. Crumble in the yeast. Sprinkle on 1 tablespoon of sugar. Mix into the pre-dough with a little lukewarm milk and flour. Cover and let rise for 15 minutes. Add the remaining sugar, remaining milk, butter in pieces, salt, and egg. Knead into a dough. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes. Knead in the sultanas and candied lemon peel, and shape into an oblong, flat, oval loaf. Fold one side over the other and roll inwards. Place on a greased baking tray and bake in a preheated oven on the lowest rack for 70 minutes at 175 degrees. Allow to cool. The slices are delicious brushed with good butter.
