Kohlrabi casserole

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 kg kohlrabi
  • 500 ml chicken broth
  • 40 g butter
  • 30 g wheat flour
  • 250 ml milk
  • salt and pepper
  • 400 g chicken breast fillet(s)
  • 150 g Gouda, grated

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 45 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour

Preheat the oven to 200°C (top and bottom heat). Peel and wash the kohlrabi, halve it, and slice it thinly. Bring the chicken stock to a boil, cover, and cook the kohlrabi slices for about 15 minutes. Strain the stock through a sieve to collect the liquid. Melt the butter in a saucepan and fry the flour until light yellow. Whisk in the stock and milk. Season the sauce with salt, nutmeg, and pepper, and simmer for 2 minutes. Wash and season the chicken breast fillet, and slice it thinly. Arrange the kohlrabi and chicken strips in a baking dish. Pour the sauce over the slices and sprinkle with cheese. Bake for 30 minutes (top and bottom heat). Serve with potatoes.
