Lasagna with Chinese Cabbage – That’s How it Works

You can make a lasagna with Chinese cabbage in different ways. Depending on your mood, you can vary the different ingredients. You can also add savoy cabbage to the Chinese cabbage. We’ll show you how.

How to prepare lasagna with Chinese cabbage

For a lasagne with Chinese cabbage, you can either make the dough sheets yourself or use ready-made lasagne sheets. For the dough, you need 400 g of flour, salt, four eggs, and two tablespoons of olive oil. For the filling, you need 800 g Chinese cabbage, two shallots, two cloves of garlic, two tablespoons of butter, 400 ml milk, salt, pepper, nutmeg, 250 g cream cheese, and 75 g grated cheese.

  • If you want to make a dough yourself, you must first put the flour and a pinch of salt on the work surface for the dough.
  • Then put the egg and oil in a well. Knead everything together well. If the liquid is not enough, you can add a little cold water.
  • Then wrap the dough in cling film and place it in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  • Wash the Chinese cabbage and cut it into thin strips. Finely chop the peeled garlic and shallot. Now put the butter in a pan and sauté the garlic and shallot in the butter.
  • Once the garlic and shallot are sautéed, add the Chinese cabbage to the pan. Now sauté everything together and add the cream cheese and milk. Boil everything. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Now preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
  • Take the dough out of the fridge. You now have to roll out the dough very thinly into sheets of the same size or turn it through a pasta machine.
  • Put some sauce in a casserole dish and put a pasta plate in it. Spread the Chinese cabbage mixture on the pasta plate. Then add a plate of pasta and repeat the process until you’ve used it all up. There should be a pasta plate at the top.
  • Sprinkle the top layer with cheese and place the lasagne in the oven for 30 to 35 minutes.

How to vary a lasagna with Chinese cabbage

You can vary a lasagna with Chinese cabbage in different ways. Depending on what your fridge has or which ingredients you prefer yourself, very different types of lasagne with Chinese cabbage can be made here.

  • You can season the sauce differently. For example, deglaze garlic onions with white wine before adding milk. If you don’t like milk, you can use cream. Then the sauce will be creamier. You can steam the Chinese cabbage separately from the sauce.
  • Steam the Chinese cabbage together with ham or bacon, for example. If you prefer minced meat, that’s also possible.
  • If you like different spices, you can use chili powder, nutmeg, white pepper or oregano, and basil in addition to salt and pepper.
  • There are no limits when it comes to cheese either. For example, use mozzarella or Tilsiter.
  • If you like, you can also roast sunflower seeds, for example, and pour them over the lasagne at the end.
  • If you don’t have Chinese cabbage on hand, you can substitute savoy cabbage for it.
