Macaroni and Pea Casserole

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 350 g pasta (macaroni)
  • 150 g ham, cooked
  • 2 onions
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 450 g peas (frozen)
  • 75 g hazelnuts, roughly chopped (more if desired)
  • 125 g cheese (gratin cheese), grated
  • 400 g sour cream
  • 4 eggs
  • salt and pepper
  • possibly garlic
  • Fat for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Cook the macaroni in salted water until al dente, pour into a colander, and drain. Roughly dice the ham. Peel and dice the onions, then sauté in butter until translucent. Add a little garlic, if desired. Stir in the frozen peas, season with salt and pepper. Remove from the heat and stir in the diced ham and hazelnuts. Preheat oven to 180°C (fan oven is best). Mix the cheese with the sour cream and eggs and season with salt and pepper. Grease an ovenproof dish with butter (important). Add about half of the macaroni and spread the pea and ham mixture evenly. Layer the remaining pasta on top and pour the cheese and egg mixture over it. Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes. A fresh green salad goes best with this dish.
