If you make mulled wine yourself, it can sweeten many a cold winter day. In this article, we will show you what you need and how to do it.

You need these ingredients if you want to make mulled wine yourself

Before putting on the mulled wine, you need to gather the ingredients. The following information refers to a quantity of about one liter. If you need larger quantities of mulled wine, you have to adjust the ingredients accordingly. You need:

  • a liter of red wine (preferably sweet, but not too sweet)
  • 60 grams of sugar
  • a quarter stick of cinnamon
  • the zest of half a lemon
  • three carnations
  • 125 milliliters of water

The recipe

Now have a saucepan, a sieve, and a spoon ready for stirring. Then proceed as follows:

  1. Briefly boil the water with the sugar and spices. Stir the mixture a bit so that nothing burns.
  2. Then remove the pot from the stove and let it steep for 30 minutes at a low temperature.
  3. Now take the leftover cloves and lemon zest from the mixture. You can simply remove the larger pieces with a spoon, for the smaller leftovers you need a sieve.
  4. Now slowly add the wine and reheat the mixture. But be careful: Take the mulled wine off the stove just before it starts to boil.
