Make Pasta Yourself: Tips And Recipes

Make pasta yourself – how does that work? Many pasta lovers ask themselves that question. Even beginners can easily try out the basic recipes for homemade pasta and modify them with different ingredients.

There are countless recipes for making pasta yourself. You only need a few ingredients and a rolling pin. If you like homemade pasta, you can get a pasta machine. It makes trimming easier and allows for additional shapes. The preparation time is usually around 30 minutes. However, according to the respective recipe, the dough must rest in the meantime.

What ingredients are required to make pasta yourself?

This recipe is a classic basic variant of homemade pasta and serves as the main course for two people. These ingredients are needed to make pasta yourself:

  • 300 grams flour (or whole wheat flour) for the dough, plus about flour for processing
  • 3 medium eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • some water

Make pasta dough yourself – what are the steps?

First mix flour with salt. Add the egg and oil and knead the dough thoroughly. Best on a worktop, press flat, again and again, bend the edge up towards the middle and press flat again.

Is the homemade pasta dough not elastic enough? Then add very little water, for example with a teaspoon. If the dough sticks to your fingers, a little more flour will help.

Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in a kitchen towel and leave it to rest for 30 minutes.

Take about a quarter of the dough and form it into a sheet for the pasta machine to make pasta yourself. Alternatively: Roll out very thinly and cut into the desired shape with a knife. Fresh pasta only needs to cook in salted water for two to three minutes.

If you want to make the pasta dough yourself and cook it later, you can place the pasta on kitchen towels that have been dusted with flour. Turn in between.

This is the basic recipe for making pasta yourself. It’s great to supplement, for example with a teaspoon of chili powder or a tablespoon of chopped basil leaves, or a teaspoon of curry powder.

What is the difference between making pasta and pasta yourself?

Pasta is the Italian word for noodles. In other words, pasta normally means Italian-style noodles. The preparation is almost the same as for homemade pasta dough, but the list of ingredients is different. Here is the basic recipe for two people:

  • 350 grams of durum wheat semolina
  • lukewarm water (between 120 and 180 milliliters)
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the pasta, durum wheat semolina, salt and oil are carefully kneaded together, plus around 120 milliliters of water. If the dough feels too dry after kneading for two to three minutes (a mixer is also possible), gradually add a little water. The homemade pasta dough should feel pleasantly dry and supple and not stick to your fingers. It should then rest at room temperature, wrapped in cling film, for about an hour before being processed as described above.

If you rarely get to make your pasta in everyday life, you can also prepare it and then freeze it.
