Make Tahini Yourself – This is How it Works

You can make tahini yourself quickly and easily. We will show you what you need for the sesame mousse from the oriental kitchen and how to prepare the paste.

Making tahini yourself: you need this

The ingredient list for tahini is short.

  • For the sesame paste, you need 300 g of sesame seeds. You can use both shelled and unshelled grains. With unpeeled sesame, the puree becomes a little more bitter. But it also contains more vitamins.
  • You will also need 40 ml of vegetable oil. Sesame or olive oil, for example, is good.
  • For the filling, you need a glass with a screw cap.

How to prepare the sesame butter

Once you have weighed and measured the ingredients, preparation is quick and easy.

  1. First lightly toast the sesame seeds in a pan without oil. It is best to stir the whole time so that nothing burns.
  2. Let the grains cool completely. Then the roasted grains go into the blender. Blend on the highest setting for about 15 seconds. Blending gets the grains hot, so they need to be cooled again.
  3. Push the sesame seeds back down in the blender and repeat step 2 until the oil comes out of the sesame seeds and the mixture becomes a little creamy.
  4. Then add the oil and mix thoroughly again.
  5. Fill the finished tahini into the clean glass and close it.
  6. Do not keep the sesame butter in the fridge, but store it in a cool and dry place. Then the tahini will keep indefinitely.
