A substitute for tahini can be found at most supermarkets. Here we explain the possibilities.

Tahini substitutes: These alternatives are possible

Tahini is made from sesame seeds and oil. If you don’t have one and don’t want to make one yourself, the following alternatives are suitable for you:

  • Nut butter : A nut butter is creamy and replaces tahini. It doesn’t matter whether you use peanut butter or cashew butter, these variants are all similar in texture and taste.
  • If you want to make the mousse yourself, simply puree the nuts and add some water.
  • Sunflower seeds : A puree of sunflower seeds can also replace tahini. Roast sunflower seeds and add some sunflower oil. Blend everything into a creamy mass.
  • Greek Yogurt : If you want a creamy texture, you can substitute Greek yogurt for tahini. This variation works if you want to use tahini for a dressing or sauce.
