Make Your Own Wedding Cake – That’s How It Works

Make your own wedding cake – bake it

  • The most important thing when baking the wedding cake is that you choose a flavor that the bride and groom like best. After all, it’s their wedding.
  • Once you have decided on a flavor, bake a cake base and divide this base into three parts. Danger! Before that, take off the top of the floor. It absolutely has to be straight. Without a cake cutter, however, the cut will be crooked.
  • The buttercream is particularly popular as a filling. Spread the bottom part of the base with the filling and place the middle part on top of it. Repeat with the top part.
  • If you want more layers for your cake, you will need another base of the same size. Stack this up as previously described.
  • For a tiered cake, repeat these steps with a smaller cake.

Make your own wedding cake – decorate

Once you’re happy with the height of your cake, it’s time to decorate.

  • First spread the entire cake with more buttercream. Here it is important that you work very precisely. A smooth surface must be created, especially on the upper side, otherwise, you will not be able to place further levels on top of each other later. A kitchen spatula is suitable for this.
  • Then grab the fondant. You can buy this ready-made. For this step, it is crucial that you have worked cleanly beforehand. Uneven spots on the cake will stand out as unsightly mounds here.
  • Now roll out your fondant. You can use a rolling pin to place this on the cake. Smooth out the fondant with your hands and then cut off excess corners.
  • Do this with each tier of your cake and then assemble your cake.
  • Now it’s time for personal decoration: That will depend on the theme of the wedding. You can get decorations ready-made online or in bakeware stores. Flowers, blossoms, and hearts are particularly popular. These are also edible.

Wedding cake planning

  • Be sure to plan for each level to be baked and allowed to cool first. This takes more time than initially assumed.
  • Wrap the cake in fondant on the wedding day.
  • You should start preparing the cake two days before the wedding.

Wedding Cake: More Baking Tips

  • Decide right from the start how many tiers and layers you want your cake to have.
  • Also, plan directly how the cake should look like in the end. You can purchase a cake stand well in advance and it makes the cake an eye-catcher.
  • Make sure the bride and groom are happy with your choice of cake. Not everyone likes chocolate or buttercream!
  • The more tiers your cake has, the more unstable your work will be. Especially on the lowest level, there is an immense weight.
