  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 180 g butter or margarine, soft
  • 150 g sugar or whole cane sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 60 ml mineral water

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

enough for 8 glasses of 250 ml each

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Grease the jars and sprinkle with breadcrumbs. Mix the flour and baking powder. Cream the butter and sugar until creamy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Stir the flour and mineral water into the egg mixture. Divide the batter in half. Mix one half with the cocoa powder and chocolate shavings. Add 2-3 tablespoons of milk, if desired. Mix the other half with the vanilla sugar. Divide the light batter evenly among the jars and fill with the dark batter. Use a meat fork or wooden skewer to make circular rings through the batter. Bake the jars uncovered in the hot oven on the bottom rack for approx. 20 minutes. Test for doneness with a wooden skewer. Once cooled, dust the cake with powdered sugar, if desired. This makes enough for 8 twist-off jars (250 ml each).
