Ingredients for 3 servings:

  • 1 pack of matjes fillet(s) in oil
  • 1 small onion(s)
  • 3 gherkins, more or less if desired
  • 125 g cherry tomatoes
  • 400 g natural yogurt
  • 1 cup sour cream or crème fraîche
  • ½ sour apple (e.g. Granny Smith)
  • e.g. milk
  • 2 bay leaves, dried
  • 5 juniper berries, dried

Instructions

Working time approx. 35 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Brush the oil off the fish. Cut it into small pieces and then mix it with the yogurt and crème fraîche or sour cream in a bowl. Chop the onion into pieces or rings, as desired, and add to the bowl. Chop the gherkins and add them. Slice the cherry tomatoes, season with salt if desired, and add to the other ingredients. Fill the bowl with milk to your taste. Peel the apple and grate it into the mixture, piece by piece. Add the bay leaves and juniper berries. Cover and let the mixture sit in the refrigerator for about an hour.
