Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 10 herring fillets
  • 1 large apple
  • 2 m.-sized onion(s)
  • 125 ml cream
  • 500 g natural yogurt
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 15 juniper berries
  • 1 clove(s) garlic, freshly squeezed
  • 4 m.-large pickled cucumber(s)
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp dill
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • salt and pepper

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Rest period approx. 1 day; Total time approx. 1 day 20 minutes

how to like it on New Year’s Eve

Cut the herring fillets into 2 cm pieces and place them in a bowl. Dice the peeled apple, onions, and cucumbers and add them with the cream and natural yogurt. Mix in the bay leaves, juniper berries, garlic, mustard seeds, dill, and sugar, and season with salt and pepper. Stir 3-4 times a day, occasionally. After 24 hours, the marinade is ready to serve.
