Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 6 cups water
  • 3 cups milk
  • 6 cardamom pods (whole pods)
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 grains of black pepper
  • 1 tbsp fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp anise
  • ½ tsp fresh ginger
  • 1 stalk(s) cinnamon
  • 2 tsp tea, black Assam
  • sugar or honey

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Indian spiced tea

Chop the cardamom (only the inner seeds of the pods), cloves, fennel, anise, cinnamon, ginger, and pepper, or pound them in a mortar and pestle. Place them in a pot and pour over the water. Heat everything and simmer for a few minutes. Add the milk and simmer gently while stirring. Now add the black tea and let it steep for 3-5 minutes; do not boil. Strain the finished Masala Chai through a sieve and sweeten with sugar or honey, if desired. Serve hot. Tip: Tastes best during the Christmas season!
