Mashed Potatoes with Apple and Bacon Topping

The perfect mashed potatoes with apple and bacon topping recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

Mashed potatoes

  • 1 kg Potatoes, floury
  • Milk
  • Butter
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Nutmeg, freshly grated

Apple and bacon topping

  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 100 g Finely diced bacon
  • 1 Apple
  • 2 size Onion

Mashed potatoes

  1. Peel the potatoes and cook them in sufficiently salted water, drain them and let them steam off very well. Then take the potatoes out of the pot and add some milk and a good trick of butter to the pot. Now press the potatoes into the milk through the potato press and then put them back on the stove.
  2. Now mix everything carefully with a wooden spoon (make sure that the potatoes are not stirred too much, otherwise they will lose too much starch and the puree will be slimy and sticky). Season to taste with salt, pepper and freshly grated nutmeg.

Apple and bacon topping

  1. Finely dice the onion. Wash the apple, dry it, cut it in half and remove the core. Then finely dice the apple.
  2. Melt the butter in a pan and leave the bacon crispy in it, then add the diced apple and onion and simmer for 5 minutes while turning.

finish

  1. Arrange the puree on a plate and pour the topping over it.
