Matjes – Cake
The perfect matjes – cake recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.
- 1 packet Herring fillet
- 2 packet Leaf of gelatine
- 1 glass Mixed pickles
- 1 liter Water / broth from the mixed pickles
- 1 tbsp Vinegar
- 2 Onion
- Salt pepper
- 2 Bay leaf
- 1 tsp Pimento
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 0,5 Bd Tarragon
- 1 stem Dill
- Pour the liquid from the mixed pickles through a sieve into the pot. Add half of the water and half of the clear broth to 1 liter. Salt (carefully) and pepper the liquid. The fish is very salty. Also add onion, bay leaf, allspice, mustard seeds, dill and tarragon. Bring everything to the boil and simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Soak the gelatine in cold water. Squeeze out well and add to the boiling liquid. Mix well.
- Place the herring in a dish of your choice. Fill in layers according to your mood. Proceed similarly to aspic.
- Garnish the colorful vegetables nicely. Pour the cooled gelatine over it. But only very little at first, the vegetables are not allowed to swim. Let the gelatine solidify. Then pour the rest over it. Place in the refrigerator (approx. 2 hours). Finished!
- Can be expanded with boiled egg etc. I chose the simple shape with mixed pimples. Also tastes good with fried potatoes and tartar sauce. Tartar sauce
