Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 1 pack of fish fillet(s) (matjes)
  • 2 m.-sized onion(s)
  • 4 gherkins
  • 2 grains allspice
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Pepper, ground
  • Oil (sunflower oil)

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Open the matjes package and drain the oil, as it has a peculiar flavor. Cut the matjes fillets into cubes. I cut them lengthwise three times and then into equal-sized cubes. Peel the onions, halve them, and thinly slice them. Dice the cucumbers. Place everything in a bowl and season with allspice, bay leaf, and pepper. Drizzle with a little sunflower oil. Let it sit for about 6 hours. Serve with bread or fresh rolls.
