Specialty from Serbia

Pat the meat dry with kitchen paper and cut into goulash-sized cubes. Peel the onion and slice it thinly. Place the meat cubes in a bowl with the onion slices and olive oil. Peel and press in the garlic, mix everything together, cover and refrigerate for about 2 to 3 hours. Marinate for about 2 to 3 hours. Wash, halve, and trim the bell peppers. Cut into approximately 2 cm pieces. Peel and quarter the onion, halve the quarters crosswise, and open them. Remove the meat cubes from the marinade and let them drain slightly. Reserve the marinating oil and set aside. Oil four metal skewers. Thread pieces of onion, meat, and bell pepper alternately onto the skewers. Heat up a charcoal or electric grill. Brush the skewers all over with the marinating oil and grill on the hot grill for about 15 minutes. Turn the skewers occasionally and brush them with the marinating oil. Finally, season with salt and pepper and serve on plates. Serve with raw chopped onions, fresh white bread, and a medium-bodied red wine. This dish is perfect for camping. Note: In former Yugoslavia, grilled meat and fish are popular. To give these so-called raznjici the right flavor, they are marinated with onion and garlic beforehand.
