Meatballs with tomato sauce

Ingredients for 3 servings:

  • 500 g minced meat, mixed
  • 2 medium-sized onions, chopped
  • 1 m.-sized egg(s)
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • salt and pepper
  • Paprika powder
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 m.-large tomato(s), ripe
  • 50 g bacon, diced
  • 1 clove(s) garlic
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 shot of red wine
  • 300 g tomatoes, pureed
  • some oregano

To make the meatballs, knead one of the onions with the minced meat, egg, mustard, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and paprika. Roll the mixture into balls of any size. Pour the olive oil into a pan, add the meatballs, and fry until tender. Pour the meat juices into a saucepan, add the second finely chopped onion, the chopped garlic cloves, and the bacon, and fry until translucent. Briefly place the tomatoes in boiling water, then peel them. Cut the peeled tomatoes into small pieces, add them to the pan, and cook until dry. Towards the end, add the tomato paste, then deglaze with the red wine and let it simmer for a while. Add the passata, oregano, salt, and pepper. Tip: If you prefer it a bit spicier, you can also cook a dried chili pepper with the meat and then remove it later.
