Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes

For the batter, beat the sugar and eggs until fluffy. Add the butter and mix. Add the vanilla sugar. Mix the flour and baking powder and sift into the mixture and mix. Weigh in the cocoa powder and continue stirring. Heat the milk or heavy cream in a saucepan and melt the chocolate (I always use 100g milk and 100g dark chocolate). Pour the melted chocolate into the batter and mix well. Pour the batter onto a small baking tray or into a loaf pan (greased or lined with baking paper). Bake in a hot oven at 180°C top/bottom heat (approx. 160°C fan-assisted) on the middle rack for approx. 20-30 minutes, depending on the oven and pan. Remove the cake and let it cool. For the glaze, prepare 200g chocolate or couverture and 70ml milk or heavy cream as above and pour over the cake. Smooth everything down and let it cool. For the construction site decoration, shape cookies into fences as desired. Chop Duplo bricks into small pieces and fill the fences. Fill small construction vehicles with Smarties. Cut Kinder Surprise Bars in half and stack them. The construction site can be decorated according to your own interests. I baked this cake with my little niece. That’s why it’s a little crooked, but unique.
