Mulled apple wine as a supply for the cold season

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 620 g apples, variety of your choice
  • 750 ml dry white wine
  • 200 ml orange juice
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 5 cloves
  • 1 star anise

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 3 hours; Total time approx. 3 hours 20 minutes

Recipe for a 3.5 l slow cooker

Remove only the stems from the apples. Cut the apples into eighths, slice them into pieces, and place them in the slow cooker’s ceramic pot. Add all the other ingredients, stir thoroughly, cover, and set the temperature on high. Stir again after 2 hours and set the temperature on low for another hour with the lid on. After this time, you may want to season the mulled wine with brown sugar; I liked it as is. Place a large bowl with a fine mesh strainer in the sink and strain the mulled wine through it. If you want it clearer, filter it a second time through cheesecloth; the suspended particles this removes will contribute significantly to the flavor. Bottle the mulled wine and start looking forward to winter. My recipe yielded about 750 ml of apple mulled wine. Before heating and enjoying, add 2 quarters of half an organic lemon slice to the glass and pour in the hot mulled wine.
