Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 2 eggs
- 2 egg yolks
- 150 g powdered sugar
- 250 g butter
- 1 pt. flavoring (citro baking)
- 300 g flour
- 2 egg yolks
- 2 tbsp milk
- 150 g powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp water or lemon juice
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 2 hours; Total time approx. 2 hours 30 minutes
Hard-boil, peel, and halve eggs. Strain the cooked egg yolks through a sieve and mix with raw egg yolks, powdered sugar, softened butter, and lemon zest (or finely grated zest from an untreated lemon). Then knead in the flour, cover, and chill the dough for about 2 hours. Knead the dough into walnut-sized balls, then shape them into strands of dough, approximately 14 cm long. Place these on a baking sheet lined with baking paper to form wreaths. Mix the egg yolks with the milk and brush the wreaths with it. Bake the Christmas rings in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 10-12 minutes, then let them cool on a wire rack. Mix the powdered sugar with the liquid until smooth. Brush the Christmas rings with the icing and decorate with sugar decorations and pastry ornaments as desired.
