Orange syrup

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 2 kg orange(s) (organic)
  • 2 lemon(s), the juice
  • 4 packs of citric acid (20 g)
  • 750 g sugar

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest period approx. 1 day; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 1 day 40 minutes

Wash the oranges thoroughly. Carefully peel off the zest using a zester or grater and set aside. Squeeze the oranges. This yields approximately 1 liter of juice. Combine this juice with the juice of the two lemons and approximately half of the orange peels, cover, and let stand overnight. The next day, bring to a brief boil with the sugar and citric acid, then strain into screw-top bottles. This yields just under 2 liters. The syrup will keep for approximately six months and is very economical to use. Delicious as a sauce for vanilla pudding or yogurt, or poured over (mineral) water for a refreshing drink.
