Oregano: The Medicinal Herb Is So Healthy – Effect and Application

Oregano can be healthy when used properly. Because the herb can not only be used to refine different dishes, but also as a medicinal herb. In this article, we explain everything you need to know about this.

Oregano: This is why the herb is so healthy

Oregano or Dost can be used not only in the kitchen, but also as a medicinal herb. The essential oils of oregano are responsible for this. If you are pregnant, then you should not take the herb under any circumstances, as it can induce premature labor. Even allergy sufferers should be careful when consuming the herb, as it triggers severe allergies.

  • Oregano is primarily used as a spice. It tastes spicy and slightly peppery.
  • If you use it as a medicinal herb, you can use it to support your immune system in its work. In addition, the herb kills germs and has an antibacterial and antiviral effect. That is why cold symptoms and causes can also be combated well with oregano.
  • When taken regularly, the herb can also kill the candida fungus and fight parasites.
  • Responsible for the healthy effect of the herb are the substances p-cymene, thymol, carvacrol contained in oregano, but also tannins and bitter substances as well as the high vitamin C content.
  • Oregano has a blood thinning effect. For example, if you are taking blood-thinning medication, you should not consume the herb in large quantities. For example, if you suffer from an iron deficiency, it is advisable not to take oregano immediately after eating. Because the herb inhibits the absorption of iron from food.

Use oregano: The herb can help with these diseases

Oregano preparations cannot replace medication or medical treatment. However, if you suffer from a cold or fungus, you can use the herb as a supportive remedy. Consult your doctor beforehand and clarify whether you can use the herb.

  • In folk medicine, oregano is used to treat various diseases. So far, however, there is no scientific evidence for the areas of application. For example, the herb is used to treat bronchitis, insect bites, asthma, rheumatism and to combat the candidis fungus.
  • The herb can also be used for herpes simplex, toothache, muscle tension and insect bites.
  • Since oregano contains the substance terpinen-4-ol, it is suspected that oregano oil in particular can prevent cancer cell growth. Because terpinen-4-ol inhibits the growth of cancer cells.
  • If you suffer from digestive problems and stomach and intestinal complaints, then the herb can help you, especially with cramp-like pain.
  • Oregano oil can also help you with occasional pimples and acne. To do this, dab the affected areas with some oil.
  • Fresh and dried oregano are widely used, especially in Italian cuisine. Refine with the herb, for example, your soups, casseroles or, for example, a pizza sauce.
