Ingredients for 3 servings:
- 500 g onion(s), in half rings
- 2 tbsp butter
- 750 ml meat broth, homemade or instant
- 1 jar white wine, dry
- Salt
- Pepper, freshly ground
- 2 sugar cubes
- 4 slices of toast
- Cheese (Emmental, Gouda, no Parmesan), freshly grated
Instructions
Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes
Sauté the onion in butter until light brown, then add the boiling stock. Simmer on low heat for 10 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and sugar, add the wine, and bring back to a boil. Ladle into ovenproof bowls, top with toasted bread slices, and sprinkle thickly with cheese. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes.
