Pears, Beans, And Bacon

“Pears, beans, and bacon”, captivates despite its simplicity.

Wonderfully sweet, wonderfully hearty

We North Germans love aromatic combinations of savory and sweet, such as the combination of beans and bacon with pears. Traditionally from Hamburg, this dish is now known and loved throughout northern Germany.

The different aromas of the pears, the beans, and the bacon form a unique bond, creating a new taste experience that our great-grandparents already appreciated. Enjoy Beer’n, Bohn, and Speck, a typical North German dish!

Pears, beans, bacon: ingredients for four people

  • 500 g cooking pears
  • 500 grams of green beans
  • 500 grams of smoked bacon
  • 1 tbsp savory
  • 1 bunch of parsley
  • 1 kg of potatoes

Preparation

  • Wash and cut the fresh beans. Peel the potatoes and put them in a pot with water.
  • Cook the bacon in water for about 20 minutes, remove and keep warm.
  • Cook the savory and parsley in the broth along with the beans. Meanwhile, bring the potatoes to a boil (about 20 minutes, depending on size).
  • After 15 minutes add the pears and cook for another 15 minutes. Meanwhile, slice the bacon and serve with the pears and beans.
  • Serve with the boiled potatoes and sprinkle with parsley.

Enjoy your meal!

Leftovers? What leftovers?

If contrary to expectations, you still have pears or bacon left over, these ingredients can be used to conjure up a simple but tasty dish.

Combine juicy pear slices, crispy bacon, and creamy camembert as toppings for a sweet and savory sandwich. This not only tastes good during the lunch break but is also lightly heated in the oven for dinner.
