Ingredients for 2 servings:
- 1 vegetable onion(s)
- 1 tsp peppercorns, black
- 2 tsp mustard seeds, yellow
- 3 bay leaves
- 10 carnations
- ½ tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 100 ml vinegar (herb vinegar)
- 350 ml water

Why buy expensive onions for Bismarck herring…
Slice the onion into rings and place it in a 440 ml preserving jar. Pour the herb vinegar and water into a saucepan, add all the other spices, and bring to a boil. Let cool slightly, then pour into the jar and screw the lid on tightly. Store in a cool, dark place for at least 1 week.
